Compass Marine Yacht Surveys is owned and run by Andrew Edmond. Surveyor qualifications include a diploma (with distinction) from the world-renowned International Boatbuilding Training Centre at Lowestoft and Boatbuilding at the equally famous Boat Building Academy at Lyme Regis.
Andrew has been sailing all his life. His father and grandfather built wooden boats. Helming from an early age and crossing the Atlantic as a child, he has since cruised in his and others’ yachts in the West Indies and around the UK and France.
Andrew is an Affiliate Member of both the YDSA and the IIMS, a full member of the British Marine Surveyors Europe (BMSE) and an Associate Member of the Royal Institute of Naval Architects (RINA). With a BSc Hons, an MBA and City and Guilds Welding and Fabrication, Andrew is multi-skilled and has worked in a variety of both practical and professional settings worldwide. He is an RYA Yachtmaster with more than 20 years’ experience of boat maintenance and improvement and knows first-hand the importance of a sound boat when at sea.
Recent work includes project management of the almost complete rebuild of a 35m (112') 1942 motor yacht. She was built with double diagonal mahogany planking which has been completely replaced, along
with new bulkheads and web frames, new longitudinal members and stringers, new decks, new engines, shaft line, propellers and all systems, new luxury accommodation.
Andrew operates mainly across the Solent and South Coast from a base near Chichester, UK.
