I was called to the Chichester marina, on a Sunday morning, to investigate why a yacht on which a couple were living, was taking on a significant amount of water after being launched a week earlier. Two engineers had failed to find the problem and the couple were very worried. I located a small fountain close to the engine sea water intake under the inner moulding. A new skin fitting with an external strainer had been fitted. The old one had three locating screws. The new one had only two. But the third hole (which penetrated the think outer moulding of the hull) had not been closed off. The boat was lifted ashore the following morning and I was able to use another engineer who made an excellent repair within a few days.
